Are you on holidays, doing an internship, working or studying in Buenos Aires? Or does one of these things belong to your plans in the near future? And wouldn’t a Spanish lesson be superfluous for you? Then you should contact our teacher of Spanish, Pleuni!
If you’re thinking right now, what a strange name for an Argentinean, then you’re right. Pleuni is a Dutch girl, that lives in Buenos Aires since almost a year, and therefore she has an extensive knowledge of the Argentinean language and slang. Besides that, she speaks the official Spanish language since five years, so she can show you the differences between Spanish spoken in Spain and taught in Europe, and the typical Argentinean words and grammatical characteristics. Because as you might know, there are many differences between these two forms of Spanish.
But maybe you are not interested at all in the Argentinean dialect and you just want to learn the official Spanish language, or the other way around, you’re not interested in correct Spanish but you prefer to integrate with the Argentine people and learn their way of speaking; in both cases you can contact Pleuni. In her private lessons you choose how your lesson will be.
And yes, you are right, Pleuni is not a native speaker of Spanish and thus taking her lessons will be different than taking lessons from an Argentinean. You might consider this a disadvantage. But on the other hand, the great advantage of Pleuni being a highly advanced student of Spanish, is that she can easily show you the ropes of the Spanish grammar, going from a German/Anglo-Saxon perspective. She can explain clearly the differences between the grammatical constructions of our languages and those of the Latin languages, for she has a Dutch grammatical background. A native speaker of Spanish might not be able to highlight these differences because he or she is not familiar with the German/Anglo-Saxon languages, which might make it somewhat more difficult for you to pick up Spanish rapidly.
Pleuni gives lessons for beginners and intermediate students of Spanish. She has an economical tariff per hour and is willing to come to your house (in the capital of Buenos Aires) to teach you there, at flexible times. So… what are you waiting for? For more information you can write an e-mail to info@casa34.com or call us at one of our phone numbers (+54 11) 4854 0643 or (+54 11) 3535 0430.

As a tourist in a foreign country, the first thing that you want to do is to get a feeling for the best, craziest and coolest parts of the city.

Buenos Aires is a huge city, and it will probably take you a couple of months to get to know the main places and neighborhoods. However a fun introduction to these places is what everyone needs, once you step foot in Buenos Aires.

La Bicicleta Naranja offers you the possibility to discover Buenos Aires in a totally different way. Even for Argentineans is a new experience!

It gives you the chance to do a Bike Tour in the most interesting neighborhoods like San Telmo, La Boca, Recoleta, Palermo and the lakes and woods. For three hours more or less you will be following a guide that will show you and tell you about the most important characteristics of the city. Besides that, I must say from my own experience that biking through the city is quite a relaxing activity to do. Even thought if you already know most of the places, seeing them from a different angel, and forgetting about everything, being just you and the bike is a highly recommended opportunity.

After my own bike tour experience last week I became aware of certain details of the city that I, as full blooded Argentinean, never even realized before. It started in Palermo Hollywood and our first stop was in the place where Ernesto “Che” Guevara used to live. It is a very interesting place, especially because I got the chance to know a bit more about his life. After that we headed towards the center of Palermo where the Museo Evita is located (actually that was my first time seeing it!). It is a very nice and antique building only a few blocks away from the Botanic Garden. Again, in this spot you get to know a bit more about the Argentinean history and politics. It is always interesting and useful to have a little background of the place that you are visiting!

Then we went round the Botanic garden and Zoo. With the sun in our face and no traffic along the way, it was a very relaxed and calm ride.

Recoleta was the next stop. We arrived to Plaza Francia and there we left our bikes and took a little tour inside of the Recoleta cemetery, famous especially for the architecture of the tombs and the people buried in it like Eva Peron.

Last, but not least we rode through the Palermo’s Lakes and Woods, passing by Palermo Chico first, a residential and luxury area of the neighborhood. I must say that I hadn’t been there for a long time and it was very nice to get some fresh and pure air once again!

We ended the tour where we started, in Palermo Soho, where you will find a place to get something to drink after the ride for sure! Full of bars and restaurants it is a great place to end the day.

La Bicicleta Naranja not only offers guided tours like the one I have just described, but also rents out bikes to those that want to explore the city by themselves.

Make sure to give it a try! If you want to know more about the tours you can call to Casa34, our telephone number is 4854-0643 or you can write us an email: info@casa34.com. Furthermore we as Casa34 have the opportunity to offer a special price for the bike tours and to those that are interested in renting a bike and exploring the city by themselves, don´t hesitate to inform us about this.

Best Regards to all of you,

Any person from the European Union or US, entering Argentina with a passport which is valid at least 6 months from the date of entering the country, automatically obtains a Tourist Visa valid for a period of 90 days. This visa can be extended one time for another 90 days. This can be done at Argentinean Migration in Buenos Aires. Please note that since recently, this procedure only runs via appointment and needs to be booked in advance. Costs are of ARS 300.

Direccion Nacional de Migraciones

Calle Antardida Argentina 1355 (close to Retiro)

Tel (from Buenos Aires): 4317 0200

For this money and people with some time a hop over to Uruguay may be a better alternative. Round trips to Colonia will set you back at around 250 Peso. Getting there only takes one hour and Colonia is worth spending a couple of hours. When re-entering Argentina, you automatically have got yourself a brand new Tourist Visa. For exact fares and timetables check: www.coloniaexpress.com or www.buquebus.com

Yet another alternative is just to wait and do nothing. We heard about people who left the country whilst their tourist visa had already expired. Impact? A small fine (100 peso) or nothing…. You choose.

Almost every foreigner who comes to Buenos Aires for a certain larger amount of time goes through a number of phases when it comes down to how to best move yourself around throughout this huge city. In the first phase when everything appears to be cheap when calculated against the odd Euro, US Dollar, Swiss Frank and what have you, the Taxi is the favourite means of ‘Public Transport’ available. It is simple (just raise your hand), it’s everywhere (just count the yellow and black on the street) and ….

…. you get a long way for your 10 peso note.

In the second phase once fully indulged in the famous Buenos Aires night life, pesos are rather spent on glamourous steaks & clubs and ways are sought for cutting budgets in different categories (like Public Transport..). This is where the Subway comes in. It is cheap (mind you: ARS 1,10 for a ride) and it is fast (during peak hours much faster than Taxis). It has two big disadvantages though: every Subway goes straight into downtown (where you do not want to be after 06.00 PM) and service stops running at 23.00 PM. Once this has come to full realization, we move on to the third phase, the ‘Colectivo’ phase.

‘Colectivo’ is the Argentinean word for local bus. There seem to be a million of colectivos in the city. They are everywhere. They go from anywhere to everywhere. Sometimes the same line comes by three times within the minute. They are cheap: ARS 1,10 per ride. They run late (almost 24h per day) and most of all: riding them makes you feel like a real local, a true porteno. Only problem: they run in mysterious ways. For an outsider it seems impossible to figure out how to get from A to B using colectivo service. The Guia T is a booklet with loads of detailed maps of Buenos Aires and loads of tables which locals use to consult their appropriate colectivo itinerary. But by the moment that you as a temporary resident have figured out how to use this algabraic piece of work, you are just about to head of to Ezeiza for your return flight home.

Now however, for all those would be but never dared or never could have dreamt of colectivo riders, the perfect solution has arrived to Planet Buenos Aires. It comes in the shape and form of an internet site and can be found under www.comoviajo.com. This website let’s you insert the ‘A’ (i.e. where are you now), the ‘B’ (i.e. where do you need to go) and from there calculates the various ways of getting from A to B in colectivo service or any other means of Public Transport for that matter. Absolutely briljant! Tonight, on my weekly football match in Nunez I used it, it went flawlessly. With my comoviajo.com consult in mind I took colectivo number 166 from Juan B Justo and Aguirre in Villa Crespo. From there I changed colectivo to number 15 which dropped me off at 2 minutes walking from my final destination. ARS 2,20 colectivo fee vs. ARS 20 taxi costs. Who can beat that? Long live www.comoviajo.com. Spread the word. Halleluja.

Mucho Gusto! Hereby we present you the new Casa34 team! These four Dutch girls Meike, Mirjam, Pleuni and Imre will help you looking for the perfect place to stay in Buenos Aires!

With some fresh new energy we are working hard to make Casa34.com even more known on the world wide web by adding new apartments to our database on a daily basis and helping our clients with every question they have. We work in a multicultural environment, as in the office among each other we speak Dutch, with our neighbouring colleagues we speak Spanish, and with most of our clients we speak Spanish or English! Quite challenging, but we have a great time!

As you might know, we also still offer footballtickets for your favorite Boca match, arrange Spanish courses, let you enjoy a typical argentinan Polo match and, if you like, make you taste the finest Argentinan wines.

We are really looking forward to help all of our clients the best we can and make your time here in Buenos Aires unforgettable!!

Saludos,

Las chicas holandesas
